Canary Village
A paradise for canaries where you
can forget the city tumult
You'll find the park just past the forest northwest¹ of Mother's Day. Admission is free.
In the early 1900s, in the midst of the black cloud disturbances, there was an incident where all the household pets in Mother's Day, and other places, ran away at the same time. It's said that this was when the canaries who flew the coop first made nest here and became wild.
The only thing you can hear in this extra-quiet place is the chirping of the canaries. It's popular as a resting spot not only for birdwatchers, but families on outings and lovers as well.
Also, female canaries don't normally sing, but one of the females here will let you hear a melody so beautiful that she stands out from canaries aplenty. She's known as the Songbird Laura, and many people visit this place just to get a glimpse of this rare specimen. You should definitely grab a Hamburger or something and... well, actually, I can't say that now. There's a situation.
These days, the Songbird is hardly showing herself to people at all. On the rare occasion people do catch sight of her, she doesn't sing. She appears to have been through some kind of considerable trauma. A certain someone says it's because her baby chick, who had just been born, was taken away by cruel people. ... It's a sad story, but it appears to be the truth, for her profound sorrow must have spread to the other canaries as well. Currently, all trace of melody in this paradise is in fact lost. Do you suppose people will soon forget all about Canary Village? Do you suppose the day will never come that you'll hum the Songbird Laura's melody?

The Canary Village Man
A naturalist who spends his life among the canaries
This man has watched over the canaries for about thirty years. You'd be surprised how many people think he's the manager of the place. The truth is, he's simply a man who loves canaries. At once a naturalist, a philosopher and an eccentric, it seems this man has no small number of people looking up to him.
The Canary Who
Forgot Her Song
Laura's melody was
just like a lullaby. ...
What do we do to get the canaries to remember their songs for us...? It isn't like the people of Mother's Day have just been standing idly by. There was a man who played his flute for the canaries all day. There was also a woman who let her pet canaries, who sing a lot, loose in the village. But all efforts have ended in vain. Turning Laura's sorrow into joy is the top priority, but how?...

EVENT CHECK POINT
The key point here is to get the Songbird Laura's melody. She's in the north of the village. If you give her her canary chick (USE it), Laura will be delighted, and she might even sing her song for you.
[Screenshot dialogue box:]The Songbird Laura was sohappy to see her baby againthat she began singing.

❏ Did you get Laura's melody?
¹ The book mistakenly says "northeast".
² Most likely short for the pseudonym "Matsuo Haizen", shortened I imagine because there wasn't enough room left on the page for the full name.
