The Road to the Zoo
Whistle while you walk! It's a three-song
jaunt from Mother's Day

There are two routes you can take to get to Choux Cream Zoo from Mother's Day. If you walk due north on the path on the east side of town, after a little while you'll hit a T-intersection. Turn west here, and the zoo should come into view on your right.

The other route is by way of Canary Village. Go west from town, and once you cross the bridge just before the village, turn north along the river. This way goes over a number of bridges, and though it's a shortcut, it's easy to get lost.

Either way, with the animals loose and hanging about, the area around the zoo perimeter has turned into a safari park. And with you being on foot rather than in a car, that's cause for concern.

Mother's Day

Choux Cream Zoo
The most popular tourist spot
in the Mother's Day area

This zoo was just barely established three years ago on the previous mayor's efforts, so it's still new. On holidays and such, the people coming in from other towns make for quite the turnout. Or rather, they made for quite the turnout. ... Just like everywhere else, this place is in an awful state of affairs. The animals have gone feral and broken out of their cages, and are roaming freely around the inside of the park.

The zoo was closed down immediately, and a (rather lax) martial law has been imposed on the surrounding region. It's because of this that one of the bridges northeast of the zoo is on lockdown by police.

If you've already had success in rescuing Pippi, and you've left her in the care of Town Hall, I'm sure the mayor is pushing this second toughie on you. And I hope you've been handed the Zoo Key by his assistant, Mr. Abbott. By that I mean, the key will be enough to open the zoo doors (which are notorious for being left unlocked as it is, but you will need it).

That's just the way the mayor rolls. But if you want to keep going with your adventure, you'll have to do something about the zoo. Not for the sake of the achievement itself, but to undo the bridge blockade.

The Animals
There's sure to be an animal just like you

For a zoo with so little history, it sure is rich in its variety of animals. If the cute rabbits don't win you over, the pompous gorillas might. Aside from these, you'll find giant elephants, fat alligators, common tigers... the list goes on and on.

The most popular among these are the two pandas given as a gift from China. Every day they laze about without a care in their roofless cage.

But the biggest seller, I would say, is the Singing Monkey. All the monkey has to do is break into a short spurt of song, and not even the pandas have any spectators around their cage anymore.

Now, what would make one able to appreciate such a feel-good explanation is if the animals were nice and tame inside their cages. It's not like that now. It seems to me you won't meet very many people who, in the middle of a fight with a ferocious beast, can find enough spare time to watch the pandas laze about like usual.

The Zoo Curator's Office
There's no small number of kids considering
working here in the future

The cream-colored building near the end of the beaten path is the zoo curator's office. Normally, the zookeepers will have tea or hold meetings over whether or not to get a new giraffe. Also, they'll take lost children into their custody, and try to persuade them into wanting to become the world's greatest zookeeper. That too is one of the important jobs at the curator's office.

People who are true animal lovers at heart could be found in this building. But not anymore.

In their place are crazed mice skittering around the floor. If you were to set foot inside this building, now a mouse boarding-house, you'd be tormented by a mysterious sound, giving you the urge to cover your ears. It's an awful noise, unlike anything on the face of the Earth. And, you'll realize, that very sound is the culprit driving the animals crazy. The moment you resolve the issue may be at hand.

The Singing Monkey
Monkeys normally aren't the
kind of animals who sing

It's the unparalleled singer-songmonkey! He'll jam away on a guitar as he... well, no, he's not that good, but he will sing a one-bar melody, in a beautiful boy soprano's voice you'd never guess that face could conceal.

From what I've heard, his mother also sang the same melody. And her mother before her. ... It looks like this one bar has been handed down through the generations, only to (possibly) come to an abrupt end with his. You see, this monkey's following today's trend of not getting married. Make sure you give him a listen.

Also, it appears he's got a monkeyish side to him where he'll often slip out of his cage and steal things that humans are carrying (keys, for instance).

Today, I dusted off the old Famicom. Now, which job do I sacrifice this time? Dragon Quest caused a year's delay on my movie. I don't doubt MOTHER will push my first novel back a year too. But I won't be sorry. I mean, my adventure's already started, so...

EVENT CHECK POINT

Once you get the key from the assistant at Town Hall, head off to Choux Cream Zoo.

Defeating the Son of Starman at the Curator's Office, then learning the Singing Monkey's melody after he gets back inside his cage, will prove to be the major events here.

Once peace is restored to the zoo, the blockades will be lifted from the bridges northeast of town.

¹ Looking into this one, Biozilla got in contact with the Big Sur Historical Society. They told him: "That is a photograph showing Bixby Bridge in the mid-ground and was probably taken from Hurricane Point. It is a view that many people photograph."
